This was a terrific book. The author had a whale of a challenge on his hands, since, as he points out, Metropolis has been cut and recut many times since it premiered in Jan.

In the book, he explains the difference between the different versions and also traces how critical response to the film has changed over the years/5(6). Yet, the book often meanders along, seemingly without any guidance, in detailed descriptions and backstories that lose the reader’s interest.

On the whole, Metropolis Metropolis by Elizabeth Gaffney is a detailed epic of life in New York at the dawn of the modern age/5. Inspired by Troy's posts on all things Metropolis, I finally managed to watch the film and read the Metropolis in the making book by Fritz Lang's wife Thea von Harbou.

Unlike some of her other novels, Metropolis actually did not start as a script but was publishedbefore the film Metropolis in the making book made/5.

How filmmakers created a gorgeous, dystopian future. Last week Geeta Dayal over at Wired published portions Metropolis in the making book a very cool page program for the futuristic film Metropolis.

The program is for sale at a rare book shop in London and seeing the blog post reminded me of an article in one of my magazines from Metropolis is a science fiction novel by the German writer Thea von Harbou.

The novel was the basis for and written in tandem with Fritz Lang 's film : Thea von Harbou. Originally in French, the book is titled in English as “Ha Noi, a metropolis in the making: the breakdown in urban integration of villages”. I had the chance to attend the talk presented by the book’s chief authors and a small exhibition displaying extracts from the book at L’Espace (or the cultural center of France in Hanoi).
